Despite the washout conditions, thousands of fans descended on Goodwood House for the event.

The rain and winds had already caused a programme alteration with the Red Arrows display being called off.

In order to give ticket holders as much warning as possible, organisers called off Saturday's events.

In a statement on the Goodwood website, organisers announced that all events on Saturday, July 15, 2023, will be cancelled.

They said: "It is with deep regret that the Festival of Speed will not go ahead tomorrow (Saturday 15th July 2023).

"On-site safety is our highest priority and the forecasted high winds will pose a serious risk to various temporary structures across the site.

This cancellation is the first in the event's 30-year history with both fans and organisers disappointed with the turn of events.

Many took to Twitter to share their thoughts, one fan tweeted: "Safety first. Totally understand. Just such a shame for those with Saturday tickets. My son is so disappointed."

Another tweeted: "What a great shame for all involved, it's such a fantastic occasion."

Some fans disagree with the organiser's decision, one person tweeted: "Very disappointing and I think a huge overreaction to the weather."

The festival organisers stated the events will continue for their final day on Sunday, July 17, 2023.

The Goodwood Twitter account announced that Saturday ticket holders will not be able to attend on Sunday as it is already sold out.
